Celebrating Purpose and Power Through Poetry: August & September at Yemipoet Creation
As Yemipoet Creation marked its 1-year anniversary in August 2025, the platform didn’t just celebrate, it elevated. Through creativity, community, and a commitment to global change, Yemipoet brought poetry and purpose together in two back-to-back months of meaningful engagement.
August ’25: Anniversary Edition, Poetry for SDGs
This wasn’t just another month at Yemipoet, it was a milestone. To commemorate one year of poetic excellence, Yemipoet Creation launched a powerful campaign that fused poetry with advocacy: Poetry for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Activity 1: SDG-Themed August Poetry Contest'25
Announced on August 2, this month’s poetry contest focused on SDGs 1, 2, 3, 4, and 16. Poets were invited to write3-stanza poems (12 lines) spotlighting these global goals.
Submission Deadline: August 12
Prizes: ₦150,000 for the top 3 winners, and ₦100,000 shared among 5 SDG Champions
Total Submissions:293 poems
Entries poured in via the official Yemipoet website, with poets channeling urgent global issues into powerful, concise verse.
Activity 2: 7-Day SDGs Poetry Challenge
Running from August 4 – 10, this Instagram-based challenge encouraged poets to engage with a different set of SDGs daily.
Poets submitted 20–50 word poems related to the day’s selected SDGs.
Six lucky poets won ₦1,500 airtime daily, with winners randomly selected.
The challenge spanned all 17 SDGs, from “No Poverty” to “Partnerships for the Goals.”
This daily challenge deepened reflection on real-world issues while engaging the digital community in a fun, high-impact way.

To determine the best from the 293 entries, four esteemed judges lent their expertise:

4. Ekpenisi Nwajesu – Award-Winning Writer
Evaluation Criteria
All poems were judged based on:
* Originality
* Accurate interpretation of theme
* Clarity & expression
* Creativity (imagery, structure, titling, emotional depth)
* Adherence to rules & deadlines

September ’25: Victory – I Came, I Saw, I Conquered
Fresh from the momentum of August’s celebration, September came roaring in with a powerful theme: "Victory: I Came, I Saw, I Conquered."
Poets were challenged to distill triumph, resilience, and personal battles into 10-line poems (2 stanzas), each ending with the iconic phrase: “I came, I saw, I conquered.”
*Submission Deadline: September 8
* Total Submissions: 370 poems
* Final Winner Announcement: September 25
Consistent Evaluation Process
In line with Yemipoet’s standard, entries were judged on:
* Originality
* Adherence to format
* Interpretation of the theme
* Creativity and imagery
* Clarity, emotional depth, and structure
* Timeliness of submission
After rigorous screening, poets advanced through:
* Top 30 (Announced Sept 17)
* Top 10 (Announced Sept 20)
* Top 3 Winners (Announced Sept 25)
